Utilizing the original shoe making facility for the Florsheim Shoe Company, “Metropolitan Place” consists of the conversion of the existing six story two way concrete flat slab structure to condominium use, with the excess floor capacity (from the previous manufacturing operation) allowing for the addition of four residential floors.

The existing loading docks and lower levels were reconfigured to accommodate the required condominium and retail parking; including the construction of a new concrete parking mezzanine.

The vertical expansion is constructed of steel beams and columns with open web steel joists. The new steel columns were set directly over the existing concrete columns in order to transfer vertical and lateral loads into the main structure beneath.
